We were responsible for the spatial design and visual production of both the “Craft of Design” and “Craft of Sound” experiences for <\/strong>\u300eImmersed in Resonance<\/strong>\u300f, a special event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Sony\u2019s flagship wireless headphone series, \u300cthe 1000X Series\u300d, while unveiling the new \u300c1000X THE COLLEXION\u300d.<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For \u300eImmersed in Resonance\u300f, a special event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Sony\u2019s flagship wireless headphone series, \u300c1000X Series\u300d, and unveiling the new \u300c1000X THE COLLEXION\u300d, we were responsible for the spatial design and visual production of both the “Craft of Design” and “Craft of Sound” experiences. Rather than simply highlighting the product\u2019s features, we translated the concept of “ultimate slow listening” into an spatial environment where visuals, sound, and space seamlessly converged to create a unified sensory experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Within the “Craft of Design” experience, we created a projection-mapped installation in a traditional Japanese room using five projectors, allowing visitors to explore both the sculptural beauty and functional sophistication of the product. Leveraging the original CAD data, we visualized the ergonomically optimized form, intricate internal structure, and material selection through technical data and refined data visualizations, transforming technical information into an engaging visual experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Within the “Craft of Sound” experience, we designed an immersive environment that allowed visitors to compare live performance, stereo (2-channel), and 360 Upmix audio while visually experiencing the sound resolution,clarity, spatial depth, and atmospheric realism delivered by \u300c1000X THE COLLEXION\u300d. By combining live performances representing three distinct frequency ranges with synchronized lighting, we created a sensory narrative in which sound emerged from silence and expanded seamlessly across the space. Tailored to the venue\u2019s architectural characteristics, laser-based visual effects were integrated with the auditory experience, transforming the installation into a fully multisensory experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Points<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Craft of Design<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This content was designed for a five-screen projection environment, requiring an effective 4K-equivalent resolution across the entire canvas. To achieve this, we built the production pipeline around TouchDesigner, while integrating Houdini for sequences demanding highly detailed procedural workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During production, we developed a high-precision projection simulation within TouchDesigner, allowing us to continuously evaluate the visual result in a virtual representation of the installation environment. This workflow significantly improved production efficiency while ensuring visual accuracy within a limited schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leveraging the original CAD data, we created a visual narrative that showcased the product from multiple perspectives, highlighting both its iconic form and meticulous craftsmanship. The evolution from the first-generation model to the latest version was expressed by emphasizing the changing geometry of each generation, while the surrounding visual environment evolved in parallel with the product’s design history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To incorporate the highly detailed CAD assets into the real-time experience, we implemented a comprehensive optimization pipeline to reduce data complexity without compromising fidelity. Using Houdini, we developed custom scripts to extract only the required components, establishing an efficient workflow capable of handling large-scale engineering data in a real-time production environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a creative standpoint, we conducted extensive camera simulations to minimize lens distortion and determine the optimal viewing parameters for capturing objects moving dynamically throughout the space. By incorporating the audience\u2019s primary viewing positions into the simulation process, we achieved a natural viewing experience with minimal visual distortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking full advantage of the five-screen environment, we visualized the silence created by noise cancellation and the enveloping sound field of 360 Upmix through a minimalist particle system expanding across a predominantly black space. By utilizing the floor, ceiling, front screen, and side walls as a single immersive canvas, we choreographed the product to travel freely through the environment and emerge dramatically from the distance toward the audience, creating a uniquely immersive experience only possible with a five-sided projection system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Craft of Sound<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Craft of Sound” was designed as an experiential space where visitors could compare live performance, stereo (2-channel), and 360 Upmix audio, allowing them to perceive the product\u2019s exceptional sound resolution and spatial immersion firsthand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to the venue\u2019s physical characteristics and spatial constraints, we adopted a laser-based visual language to amplify the perceived precision and expansiveness of the sound. By synchronizing light with the auditory experience, the installation transformed invisible acoustic qualities into a tangible, experiential installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visual system was built around a circular laser projection cast across the ceiling, serving as the foundation of the entire performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Differences in the frequency ranges of each instrument were expressed through the unique behavior and transformation of the circular forms. As the instruments gradually merged into a unified ensemble, the choreography of the evolving circles overhead and the volumetric layers of light expanding throughout the space made the music\u2019s harmony and spatial presence visually tangible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the live performance, stereo (2-channel), and 360 Upmix segments, the circular laser composition served as a consistent visual motif. While maintaining a unified visual approach throughout the experience, we carefully refined its color palette, geometry, and spatial arrangement to reflect the unique character and spatial qualities of each sound format. These subtle variations allowed visitors to intuitively perceive the distinct texture and immersion of each listening experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system was built using TouchDesigner, where the audio was analyzed in real time across three distinct frequency bands. By applying independent laser behaviors to each frequency range, we created a sound-reactive visual system in which the characteristics of the music were translated into dynamic light responses and evolving geometric transformations. Through this synchronized interplay of sound and light, the installation transformed the listening experience of \u300c1000X THE COLLEXION\u300d into a visually immersive environment, allowing visitors to perceive the product\u2019s acoustic performance through both sight and sound.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
