Ghost and the Shell
The Large-Scale Cyberbrain Network Visualizer “Nerve Net.”

“Ghost in the Shell Exhibition: Ghost and the Shell” is the first large-scale exhibition in the history of the franchise to comprehensively cover all animated works of the Ghost in the Shell series, offering a cross-sectional experience of its 30-year history.

enigma was responsible for the planning and production of one of the exhibition’s main installations, the Large-Scale Cyberbrain Network Visualizer “Nerve Net.”

Nerve Net
“Nerve Net” is a large-scale, immersive interactive installation that evokes the cyberspace depicted throughout the Ghost in the Shell universe.

All of the data visualized within the vast space consists of actual data derived from the entire Ghost in the Shell animated series. These real datasets are projected across multiple surfaces, forming a dynamic cybernetic environment that is continuously rendered in real time.

The system is connected to eight exploration terminals (“Consoles”) installed within the space. Through this interaction, the network is constantly reconfigured, expressing a living, ever-evolving digital system.

At night, the installation can be experienced against the backdrop of Tokyo’s expansive cityscape.

By layering countless data points rendered on high-resolution displays with the innumerable lights of the city beyond, the work blurs the boundary between physical reality and cyberspace, creating a sensation in which both worlds overlap.

Through the visualization of vast quantities of real data, visitors experience the sensation of “diving” directly into cyberspace.

Nerve Net Console
The “Nerve Net Console” allows information from the entire Ghost in the Shell animated series to be arranged and explored within a three-dimensional data space.

Using the interface, visitors can sort, filter, and dive into the data, freely navigating the immense ocean of the network.
This interaction offers an exploratory experience that mirrors the act of traversing a boundless digital landscape.
